Pokémon Legends: Arceus' EXP Share Seemingly Confirmed By Switch Trailer

A new Switch trailer featuring Christina Aguilera seemingly confirms that Pokémon Legends: Arceus will feature the return of the party wide experience share from past game. The Exp. Share is known to be one of the more controversial features of the eighth generation of Pokémon. The party wide Exp. Share was first implemented in Pokémon Let's Go Pikachu and Let's Go Eevee.

Prior to Pokémon Let's Go Pikachu and Eevee, Exp. Share was an optional item that could be turned on or off that would give experience to the whole party rather than just one Pokémon. But beginning in the Let's Go games, party wide experience could no longer be turned off and became a permanent integration into future games. This even applied to the recently released Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl despite the original games not having team wide experience, which, combined with the ability to gain affection very easily by having Pokémon follow the player, made what many consider to be one of the easier Pokémon games.

Weeks before Pokémon Legends: Arceus' release, a Nintendo Switch trailer featuring Christina Aguilera released. The trailer featured a variety of games, one of those being Pokémon Legends: Arceus. At the 17 second mark, a Pokémon is caught, and the whole party is shown to gain experience. Whether or not there is a toggle to turn off team wide experience share still isn't known, but for now, it seems to be confirmed that experience distribution will work the same as it has in past Pokémon games.

Despite Pokémon Legends: Arceus being only a few weeks away from release, there are many gameplay elements that still aren't known. The environments are shown to be open world, yet The Pokémon Company stated that Pokémon Legends: Arceus won’t be open world, with its structure being similar to Monster Hunter. But the exact nature of this layout still isn’t known, particularly how areas are structured and how towns will connect to these open areas. The areas revealed so far are shown to be just as big if not bigger than the Wild Areas in Pokémon Sword and Shield, but the uncertainty remains.

Another aspect that isn’t known yet is how frequently trainers will be placed. Pokémon are shown to roam around each area, like in a Wild Area, in which players can fight creatures at their discretion. But depending on the amount of trainers in the game and the levels of their Pokémon, their inclusion could potentially balance out the difficulty reduction of party-wide experience share. Even with what's already known about Pokémon Legends: Arceus, there are a lot of unanswered questions about this game, possibly more so than other Pokémon games. The answers will likely come in due time, either before or on the release date of Pokémon Legends: Arceus.
