The Bad Batch Officially Ends Star Wars' Clone Era | Screen Rant
Warning! Spoilers ahead for Star Wars: The Bad Batch episode 15, "Finale Part 1"
Star Wars: The Bad Batch has officially brought an end to the era of the clones in the galaxy with the destruction of a key Star Wars location in "Finale: Part 1." The new animated series has been largely focused on the transition of power between the fallen Republic and the newly risen Empire, and a big part of that has been the shift from clone troopers to that of the original trilogy's first Imperial stormtroopers. Now, the rogue Clone Force 99 have gone on a rescue mission to save their squad leader Hunter from their traitorous brother Crosshair, though they're all in trouble due to the Empire's efforts to ensure that no more clones would ever be created to rise up against them in the future.
In previous episodes of The Bad Batch, the Empire has enacted Project War-Mantle, an initiative that oversees the introduction of recruited stormtroopers while phasing out the continued creation and deployment of clone troopers leftover from The Clone Wars. This included using certain clones such as the Republic's commandos to train their new recruits, while also absorbing the leading Kaminoan scientists and research into the Imperial machine (hinting at the Empire's future cloning efforts).
However, the first part of The Bad Batch's season finale sees all remaining clones and personnel being evacuated from Kamino's Tipoca City as the Empire shut it all down. This is where the clones had long been developed, grown, and trained to become the Republic's loyal soldiers. Regardless, after being given the order to fire by Admiral Tarkin himself, Vice Admiral Rampart commanded three Venator-class Star Destroyers to bombard the city, wiping out the iconic location from the prequel trilogy. To make it even more tragic, silent and meaningful shots of several empty rooms and facilities were shown just before the destruction which well and truly marked the end of the Clone era in the Star Wars galaxy.
It makes sense that the Empire wouldn't want the work in Tipoca City on Kamino to continue. Now that they're the dominant power in the galaxy, they can't have the Kaminoans offering their cloning services to any of their potential enemies to build new clone armies against them. That being said, it seems as though they still have a vested in their science and technologies, provided that they're the ones overseeing and controlling the efforts of the scientists they took such as Nala Se. That being said, they now have little use for Kamino itself now that they've moved on with their stormtroopers (hence the bombardment to prevent future unsanctioned clone creation).
While this is a sad moment in the Star Wars timeline, it's made even worse by the fact that the Bad Batch was still in the city as it was being attacked. With very few options as the Kaminoan platform city was exploding all around them, the episode ended on a major cliffhanger. That being said, one can imagine that most or all of Clone Force 99's squad will live on for the second part of the season finale, especially with the news that The Bad Batch has been renewed for Season 2.
