Cyberpunk 2077 Teases Mysterious ‘Cybernight’ Event
Cyberpunk 2077 has teased a mysterious upcoming event of some kind called "Cybernight." CD Projekt Red's open world RPG has been at the top of many players' wishlists for years now, having charmed countless gamers with its vision of a gorgeous, massive cyberpunk playground, full of missions to run, crimes to commit, and NPCs to befriend, antagonize, and even romance.
Unfortunately, gamers who are excited for the new title have had a very long wait to contend with. Cyberpunk 2077's development period has been achingly long, and it keeps getting longer due to a long list of repeated delays. Currently its release is scheduled for December 10th, only about a week away at the time of this writing. The December release date is the result of the most recent delay, which pushed the game back from a previously predicted November release and came as such a shock that the developers working on it didn't even know until after the news had gone live publicly.
Now that fans are in the most recent final stretch leading to the game's release, they're surely starting to get impatient. The official Cyberpunk 2077 Twitter account has taken to stoking these fans anticipation online. Earlier today the account published a brief voice clip, apparently from the protagonist of the game, informing listeners that she's received word of a big job coming up that she will need help with. This message certainly fits with the game's heavy themes of violence and crime, but the nature of this job, and the average Twitter follower's role in it, are unclear. Even more enigmatic is the "Cybernight" hashtag which has been appended to this transmission.
It's possible that CD Projekt Red has whipped up some sort of ARG in order to help promote the game. These are always entertaining and engaging advertising campaigns; Activision proved that earlier this year with an in-depth ARG to promote Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War. Activision went all-out on this project, mailing slide projectors to fans and giving them a cryptic website full of puzzles to solve, and even a copy of classic text adventure game Zork. These efforts certainly paid off for Activision and were well in line with the conspiracy-heavy setting of the game. Cybernight might be a similar project, perhaps giving fans the chance to participate in some sort of digital heist. Or maybe it's the name of a mission in the game, or a special event CD Projekt Red will be hosting on release day.
Whatever Cybernight is, it'll be hard pressed to get fans more excited for the game than they already are. People are so impatient that they've already started making VR porn parodies of a game that's still a week away at best. It's been a long, hard wait for Cyberpunk 2077 fans. Hopefully these bereft gamers will be able to take part in whatever Cybernight is with a copy of the game finally in hand.
