Ms. Marvel Set Photos Show Kamala In Homemade Captain Marvel Costume
Ms. Marvel is currently filming its first season, and new set photos are teasing Kamala Khan's love for Captain Marvel. Disney Plus will soon become another major platform for the MCU as Marvel Studios begin their slate of original shows featuring old favorites and new faces from the Marvel realm. One of the characters that fans have been waiting to see for years is the teenage heroine Kamala Khan who has become a huge icon as one of the few but biggest Muslim superheroes. With Carol Danvers going by Captain Marvel, Kamala took on Carol's former title and is finally coming to live-action.
After a lengthy casting search, Iman Vellani was chosen to bring Kamala to life in the MCU. While no release date has been set currently, Ms. Marvel is officially shooting its first season in Atlanta, Georgia. No other cast members have been announced just yet, but it's expected that several members of Kamala's family will be revealed soon. There have been reports that suggest that Kamala's best friend and her brother are two of the supporting characters joining Kamala on-screen. With filming underway, the world is starting to get its first look at the upcoming Marvel drama.
Through a new batch of set photos via Just Jared and @BRMarvelNews, Vellani's titular hero has gotten her first look revealed. While most of the pictures are of Kamala riding her bike, there are a few, in particular, that should get a lot of Ms. Marvel fans excited. While the scene's context is unknown at this time, Vellani can be seen wearing what looks to be her own homemade Captain Marvel costume. Given how much of a fan Kamala is of Carol, it makes perfect sense that she's already being seen cosplaying the beloved MCU heroine.
According to the show's production listing on IMDb, Arjun Bhasin (A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood) is credited as the series costume designer. Now that this look has been revealed, fans expect to see more soon. Maybe even Kamala's official Ms. Marvel outfit. Commonly when massive superhero productions such as Ms. Marvel begin filming scenes involving the main heroes' costumes, studios reveal an official look first before paparazzi pictures can get out. Whenever costumes get their looks revealed by set photographs before releasing promotional images, they tend to get many mixed reactions. Set photos never do these suits justice as they usually get snapped by a camera that doesn't deliver the same quality as what studios and networks use in filming.
A positive thing to take away from Vellani shooting scenes in any costume is that her suit's official look might be coming sooner rather than later. On the other hand, shows like Superman & Lois began filming recently too with the promise of Clark getting a new suit. Despite filming being underway, The CW hasn't even revealed his new look, and Tyler Hoechlin is reportedly already doing scenes featuring his new costume. But in Ms. Marvel's case, it's very likely that more news, including casting details, will at least begin to emerge as they keep filming the first season.
