Quick News: Maid, Son, Mouth, Train

Maid
Nick Robinson (“Love, Simon,” “A Teacher”) will reunite with his “Native Son” co-star Margaret Qualley in Netflix’s dramedy series “Maid” from writer Molly Smith Metzler and inspired by Stephanie Land’s bestselling memoir. Qualley plays a single mother who turns to housekeeping to – barely – make ends meet. The project hails from John Wells Productions, Margot Robbie’s LuckyChap Entertainment and Warner Bros. Television. [Source: Deadline]

American Son
“If Beale Street Could Talk” star Stephan James is in final negotiations to co-star with Russell Crowe in the thriller “American Son,” a remake of acclaimed 2009 French feature “A Prophet,” at Paramount Pictures. Andrew ‘Rapman’ Onwubolu is on board to direct the movie from a screenplay by Dennis Lehane.

The film centers on a man (James) who, after falling under the control of a ruthless mobster (Crowe) while in prison, builds a multiracial crime syndicate, takes down his mentor and earns a place for his crew alongside the Italian and Russian mafias. [Source: UPI]

Big Mouth
Ayo Edebiri (“Dickinson,” “Sunnyside”) will take over the voice role of Missy Foreman-Greenwald, replacing Jenny Slate, on the final episodes of the new season of Netflix’s adult animated comedy “Big Mouth”. This was done in an effort to ensure proper racial representation is on display with the characters and cast behind them. [Source: Twitter]

Train Man
Anthony Hemingway (“Red Tails”) is in talks to direct legal drama “Train Man” based on the true story of Darius McCollum. Darius was diagnosed with Asperger syndrome and his fascination with subways and trains led to him posing as various New York City Metro officials in order to operate subway trains.

Despite allegedly having extensive knowledge of the NYC public transportation system, he was said to be rejected for employment. He was arrested on several occasions and became a folk hero for people who are on the spectrum. Simon Stephenson wrote the screenplay, which will follow the lawyer hired to defend McCollum.
