Survey: Most Waiting Until 2021 For Cinemas

A new Morning Consult survey taken from June 26th-29th for THR has revealed that a lot of people aren’t ready to rush back into theaters anytime soon.

From a sample of 2,200 U.S. citizens, it appears only 15% of people are at least ‘somewhat likely’ to visit cinemas immediately when they reopen, the number jumping to 26% when you extend that figure to the ‘first month’ of re-opening.

The eye-opening number though is that only 35% of the entire survey group are at least ‘somewhat likely’ to return to theaters anytime in 2020. This would suggest most aren’t willing to risk a cinema trip until 2021.

That may put a damper on the expectations of studios like Warner Bros. Pictures and Disney Pictures which need audiences to come out en masse for their $200+ million blockbusters like “Mulan” and “Tenet”.

As of now, most theaters will reopen by July 31st in the United States with several titles arriving in August, but some studios are expected to re-evaluate their release dates for August and September over the current holiday weekend.
