“Modern Warfare” Is Getting Really Big
The most recent “Call of Duty” isn’t just one of the most popular games on the market, it’s also the most well-endowed it would seem. Screen Rant reports that with its latest update, the game now requires 209 GB of storage space on PC.
The game launched with a 100Gb install file, or a 22Gb Day One patch for those with the discs – in either case it worked out to a 150 Gb initial install. However, with the popularity of the multiplayer component “Warzone,” numerous updates to it have seen total file size balloon rapidly.
Even hardcore gamers on Reddit, who first flagged the issue, have said the size has simply gotten out of hand with some simply deleting the game when it got too large for their systems.
One game that is bigger is “Ark: Survival Evolved” at 250Gb, though that is with a ton of optional updates and map packs installed – elements that can easily be removed and still allow the base game to operate. “Modern Warfare” has no such way to cut down on its size.
Other games that clock in with major file sizes include “Quantum Break” (178Gb), “Destiny 2” (165Gb), “Red Dead Redemption 2” (150Gb), “Final Fantasy XV” (148Gb), “Gears of War 4” (113Gb), and “Call of Duty: Black Ops III” (113Gb).
Size issues aside, the game is having no issues in terms of popularity or acclaim, scoring multiple award nominations and is the highest-selling game in the franchise during the current console generation. In less than its first two months it had earned over $1 billion in revenue.
