A “Rocky IV” Director’s Cut On The Way

Sylvester Stallone has confirmed that a director’s cut of 1985’s “Rocky IV” is on the way, so Rocky and Drago will fight again.

On Instagram, Stallone was recently promoting the extended cut of “Rambo: Last Blood” which just became available and which he claims is better than the theatrical cut.

In the comments section for that post, someone asked him about a possible director’s cut of 2006’s sixth film in the “Rocky” franchise – “Rocky Balboa”. Stallone wrote every entry and directed the second, third, fourth and sixth movies in the series.

Though Stallone shot down a new ‘Balboa’ cut, he surprisingly revealed another entry is getting a new version: “I am not doing that but I am doing a director’s cut on Rocky IV which will be amazing!!!!!”.

It’s not clear how that new cut came about whether Stallone decide to revisit it, or if the studio requested it for either a re-release or a streaming service exclusive.

The selection makes sense. The recent “Creed 2″was a critical and commercial success and ties heavily into the events of “Rocky IV” with both the return of Ivan Drago (Dolph Lundgren) and the legacy of the death of Apollo Creed (Carl Weathers).

Though reviews were mixed at the time, it remains the highest-grossing entry in the main “Rocky” series to date with more than $300 million at the global box office.
