The “Highlander” Remake Is Still Very Active

A remake of cult-favorite fantasy action feature “Highlander” has been in development for many years, and most recently “John Wick” director Chad Stahelski became attached to the property.

On the surface, not much progress appears to have been made since his hiring for the gig in late 2016, but recently Stahelski tells Discussing Film that the recent lockdowns haven’t affected the push forward and the project is still very much active at the moment:

“We’re in heavy development mode on Highlander. Tweaking the scripts, writing, conceptualizing sequences, how we’re going to do everything. We probably have a lot more in-person kind of things, but it hasn’t slowed down our development process at all.”

The project would be Stahelski’s first project not “John Wick” related since he made his directing debut with the first ‘Wick’ in 2014.

The original 1986 film followed Christopher Lambert as swordsman Connor MacLeod, one of a number of immortal warriors who can be killed only by beheading. After initial training by immortal swordsman Ramirez (Sean Connery), MacLeod lives on for several centuries, eventually settling in New York City and taking on his greatest enemy the Kurgan (Clancy Brown).
