Marvel’s “Silver & Black” Could Hit Disney+
For a while there, Sony Pictures was developing “Silver & Black,” a team-up film that would bring “Spider-Man” supporting characters Silver Sable and Black Cat together in an unlikely team-up.
The decision was then made to give each character their own solo outings, but ultimately talk of those projects fell by the wayside. The one concrete thing about them was that celebrated filmmaker Gina Prince-Bythewood was attached to direct the original team-up project.
Recently speaking with THR (via CBM), she was asked what she knows about where the project stands now and it sounds like there has been discussions to potentially develop it as something for the Disney+ streaming service:
“I really love that project, and I do hope it can still happen in some way. It keeps going through different thoughts. First, it was going to be the two of them, and then the decision was made to separate the two. Now, there’s a thought of ‘Hey, maybe we put it on Disney+ as a limited series,’ but I loved it more as a film with the two of them. So, my hope is that one day it can still happen.”
It’s an odd choice. Whilst Disney and Sony have made nice over Spider-Man, Marvel Studios’ creative input purview is only in regards to the Spider-Man films themselves and not the various spinoffs. However Sony is one of the few studios to not be developing its own SVOD service, preferring to license out its content on a case-by-case basis, which means it is possible – especially if Kevin Feige gets to have some input.
