Marvel's Avengers 2.4 Update Will Make Events & Rewards More Exciting
Patch 2.4 is coming to Marvel's Avengers, and the upcoming update will overhaul the way events and rewards are handled. Crystal Dynamics' mighty multiplayer game was poorly received at launch, and ongoing attempts to fix the experience and rebuild its playerbase have so far failed. Many fans feel that the end of Marvel's Avengers is near, but Crystal Dynamics is still making an admirable effort to improve the superhero slugfest.
While many players praised the title's story and each hero's unique abilities, Marvel's Avengers has been continually criticized for its technical issues, microtransactions and lack of meaningful endgame content. In an attempt to create an enticing gameplay loop Crystal Dynamics has introduced a handful of timed events, like Red Room Takeover and Corrupted Vibranium, but these frequently-rotating mission chains fail to deliver subsequent variety or unique gameplay. The last piece of truly original Marvel's Avengers content dropped back in November 2021, with the update adding the Klaw Raid and bringing Spider-Man to PlayStation consoles. Recently the future of Crystal Dynamics and Marvel's Avengers was made even more questionable, with publisher Square Enix selling the developer to holding company Embracer Group in early May.
A recent Marvel's Avengers blog post by Crystal Dynamics details Patch 2.4, which is set to arrive next week. The update will focus on improving the game's rotating selection of limited-time events and the rewards that players earn from participating in them. These two-week long events will now give players three different mission chain types to complete: massive Meta Mission Chains, smaller Minor Mission Chains and Daily Mission Chains that feed into that event's Meta chain. Completing these objectives now rewards Marvel's Avengers players with standardized gear from pre-established sets, providing clearer incentives to participate.
While Patch 2.4 will make events more exciting for players, Patch 2.5 is set to introduce Jane Foster as Thor to Marvel's Avengers. A popular comic run in 2014 saw Thor's long-time love interest wield Mjolnir and become the new God of Thunder, and the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe film Thor: Love and Thunder will adapt this storyline. Jane Foster will also become a playable hero in Marvel's Avengers, creating an exciting tie-in to the film, and apparently she will wield distinct powers and abilities compared to her male counterpart. However, Crystal Dynamics has not shed much light on Jane Foster yet.
Some fans consider Marvel's Avengers to be a dead game, but Crystal Dynamics proudly continues to support the multiplayer Marvel experience. Patch 2.4 looks poised to improve the game's limited-time events and their associated rewards, which may help bring fans back into the world of Earth's Mightiest Heroes. However, only time will tell whether incremental improvements are enough to save the game.
Marvel's Avengers is available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PC and Google Stadia.
