FF7 Cover Art Perfectly Becomes Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask
A talented Redditor has shown off their art skills by combining the cover art of Final Fantasy 7 with The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask. The classic Nintendo game is one of the best-loved in the Zelda franchise, and is set to reach audiences new and old when Zelda: Majora's Mask comes to Nintendo Switch via Switch Online + Expansion Pack this February.
Final Fantasy 7 and Zelda: Majora's Mask are very different games, but both have avid fanbases around the world. Originally releasing in 1997 and 2000 respectively, the games sparked the imaginations of players with their immersive stories, memorable characters, and impressive gameplay. Both games received remakes, with the immensely popular Final Fantasy 7 Remake releasing in 2020, and Zelda: Majora's Mask receiving a 3D remake in 2015. Fans are currently awaiting news on the sequel to FF7 Remake, tentatively dubbed FF7 Remake Part 2, which will continue Cloud's story, and is one of a number of new Final Fantasy games now in development.
Redditor and digital artist Turmoil_Engage's impressive FF7 and Zelda: Majora's Mask artwork is a clever reimagining of the cover art of Final Fantasy. The piece features the infamous Clock Tower, a central focus of Majora's Mask, as well as the game's hero Link given the style of Cloud. The creator uses the FF7 logo to full effect, replacing the title with that of the Zelda game. In a follow-up comment on their post, Turmoil_Engage explained a little about the inspirations behind the piece, writing: "I just really liked how FF7 and MM both had elements that just worked for this idea. The clocktower vs Shinra headquarters, helix blade vs buster sword, etc."
When it comes to fan reimaginings and crossovers between classic games, there's no shortage of ideas shared online, and The Legend of Zelda series is particularly popular for it. Other notable fan ideas that put Zelda characters into other video games include Link in the world of Cyberpunk 2077, and even BOTW's Link in Rockstar Games' Red Dead Redemption 2. While such partnerships probably aren't likely to happen in real life, it seems fans aren't put-off, with new reimaginings and crossovers often dominating fandoms.
Turmoil_Engage's creative Zelda and FF7 artwork isn't just a beautiful piece - it also gives players a chance to imagine what such a video game crossover could look like in the real world. A 2021 survey revealed just a few of the gaming partnerships and collaborations that fans would like to see come to fruition, including Mario Kart with Need for Speed, and Call of Duty with DOOM. Perhaps unsurprisingly, a Zelda and Final Fantasy crossover came first in the survey, proving that Turmoil_Engage is far from the only player who'd like to see it happen one day.
