The Kissing Booth 3 Answers The Biggest Question In The Franchise
Netflix's The Kissing Booth 3 answers one of the biggest questions in the franchise — how are Lee (Joel Courtney) and Noah's (Jacob Elordi) family so rich? It was clear from the get-go that the Flynns are well-off, while Elle Evans' (Joey King) family isn't. Despite the difference in financial status, the clans' kids have become good friends thanks to their moms, who became best friends in college.
While Elle's family was regularly featured in the movie, the Flynns were much more prominent in The Kissing Booth franchise. That's because after her mother passed away when she was 11, Sara (Molly Ringwald), Lee and Noah's mom, took it upon herself to treat Elle as her own daughter. The Flynn matriarch has provided teen with emotional support — even when Elle was going through a rough time because of her relationships with Sara's boys. Despite the mother's presence, it's unclear what she or her husband does for a living. Aside from their sprawling home and beach house on the side, the fact that Noah can go to Harvard without a scholarship further implied that their family is financially loaded.
So that begs the question: how are they able to fund their lofty lifestyle? The Kissing Booth 3 finally provided an answer. In the threequel, the Flynn parents decided to sell their beach house, which was met with protests from their kids, as well as, Elle. Mr. Flynn (Morné Visser) rebutted that it's the logical thing to do. The upkeep of the property wouldn't be worth it, especially since no one would use it anymore with all the kids out of town for college. Apparently, the whole area around the beach house was going to be redeveloped to be an apartment/condominium complex, as explained by Sara. Lee then made a comment about how his mom sounds like a realtor, which she actually is. Given her age in The Kissing Booth 3, it’s safe to assume that Sara's already quite established in her field, so likely she's had time to build her wealth over the years.
Coming from a well-off family is one of the reasons why Lee had a difficult time empathizing with Elle's situation in The Kissing Booth 3. Unlike him, she can't just hang out the whole summer with him for their bucket list because she also needed to earn some extra money for college. On top of that, Elle also needed to spend time with her family and Noah.
The trilogy-ender, however, didn't reveal Mr. Flynn's job. In fact, the film series barely revealed anything about him. Between him and Sara, it's the Flynn matriarch who's more actively involved in the narrative. Her husband, however, is mostly a shadow figure, only appearing briefly in every movie just to establish that Noah and Lee are from a happy, financially stable family. For what it's worth, however, Mr. Flynn always looked dapper every single time he would be on screen. Perhaps the reason why he's rarely around in The Kissing Booth 3 is that he's busy with his own work.
