The Bold Type: How Fans Really Feel About The Final Season, According To Reddit

Now that The Bold Type's fifth and final season has come and gone, it's fair to say that everyone on the show got a happy ending. Once the series ended, fans were able to reflect on how far Sutton, Kat, and Jane came. In the pilot, they're best friends having the time of their lives at a fashion/lifestyle magazine, and in the series finale, they're able to confidently walk into their futures.

The Bold Type's finale is satisfying, but many viewers have some strong opinions about these last episodes, including wishing that there were more than just six episodes to wrap everything up. Fans of the popular friendship show have taken to Reddit to share their thoughts about season 5.

10 The Characters' Reactions Are Confusing

For one Reddit user and fan of the show, the characters' behavior during the fifth and final season of The Bold Type was confusing. The fan wrote, "When Kat told the girls she slept with Ava, they all freaked out, yet when Sutton said she slept with Billy wo is married with children, they totally excused it."

Fans love the friendship scenes on The Bold Type, as they typically love and support each other. Still, it's a fair point that Sutton, Kat, and Jane act a bit out of character with each other in season 5 compared to what had been established about them in prior episodes and storylines.

9 Why Don't Sutton And Richard Go To Therapy In Episode One?

Reddit user ImmortalLandowner would like to see Sutton and Richard work on their relationship in therapy. They wrote of one season 5 episode, "It felt like such a lukewarm episode. I know I really hope R and S go to therapy. Going through a miscarriage is devastating and pushing both to have or not have kids just after that is too much. It's a very real issue too."

Richard and Sutton have many romantic moments on The Bold Type, and it's really sad to watch them suffer in season 4. Many viewers agree that this relationship should have been examined more in the final season so they could each work out their emotions.

8 Jane Messes Up With Her Story

Reddit user Freda_Rah doesn't like that Jane ignores her employee, Addison, since she has a crush on her other employee, Scott. They wrote, "This is one of those times where I'm not sure how self-aware the show is -- will they make it clear that Jane is screwing this up and leaving her other writer out in the cold?"

Fans think that this storyline is problematic because Jane is trying to find abuses at a workplace, but she does inadequate research during her investigation due to her trusting Scott so much.

7 A Time Jump Would Make Sense

Reddit user HyperIzumi wonders if a time jump would work well in the season 5 premiere. They wrote, "Did that not feel like a season opener to anyone else? I know we only have five more episodes to go, but I was really, really hoping for a time jump."

Time jumps are often interesting and logical ways to make sure that enough story is happening in a show's final season. This would make sense here, as fans could see Richard and Sutton back together and Kat and Jane in exciting places with their careers.

6 It's Hard To See Sutton Drink So Much

Reddit user CaliforniaBruja is confused about why Sutton would drink so much and her friends wouldn't be more concerned. The fan wrote, "Kat and Jane not stepping in on Sutton’s drinking confused me. Addiction runs in the genes and that’s all I could think about this episode."

While fans are glad that Sutton goes to therapy and talks about being scared to be a parent because of her sad and tough childhood, viewers wish that Sutton's friends would be a bit more supportive. It does seem strange that they wouldn't be more worried about how she's handling her breakup.

5 Jacqueline Shouldn't Leave Her Job

For one Reddit user and fan of the show, it's problematic that Jacqueline would decide that she should leave Scarlet. The fan wrote, "having Jacqueline retire just reinforces the idea that women have an expiration date in the work force."

It does seem confusing that Jacqueline would want to leave this amazing job behind. She says that she and her husband Ian want to work as a team, but would she really want to leave the legacy that she has created? Not everyone was sure about this storyline.

4 It Would Be Better To See The Three BFFs At Scarlet In The End

According to Reddit user CaliforniaBruja, one thing is missing from the series finale: seeing Sutton, Jane, and Kat working together at Scarlet like they used to. The fan wrote, "I’m sure she’ll be back, but it bothered me we couldn’t just have the 3 of them together at Scarlet at the end."

The three main characters are some of the best characters on The Bold Type, and many people agree with this criticism of the ending. Since Jane is so passionate about her writing career and she has done so well at Scarlet, it doesn't make a lot of sense for her to want to leave.

3 Richard And Sutton's Reunion Feels Rushed

Reddit user blushdreams445 thinks that Richard should think more carefully about why he and Sutton broke up. They wrote, "I wanted Sutton and Richard to end up together but Richard did a total 180. I wanted to see him reflect and then come to the conclusion. I am glad that they are back together though."

While many fans ship this beloved couple, it's definitely true that they need to have a serious conversation about their future and whether or not they want children. Since the reason for their split was Richard wanting kids and Sutton being unsure, the show could have spent more time on this storyline in season 5.

2 Jane's Ending Is Perfect

Reddit user jwash1894 is happy with the way that the show wraps up Jane's story: "This is the most realistic plot for Jane! Writing has always been her first love."

While it makes sense that Jacqueline would ask Jane to run the magazine, as Jane has become editor of her own vertical and has been working her way up at the company, it also seems logical that Jane wouldn't be interested. Jane has realized that being in charge is tough and tricky, and she wants to focus on telling stories, whether her own or other people's.

1 Maybe Kat Shouldn't Be The Next Editor-In-Chief

Reddit user ImmortalLandowner isn't so sure about Kat's ending. The fan wrote, "I love Kat but I don't know why she was chosen as the next EIC. I would have liked to see her progress and grow more or maybe after the mayor race and being steady it would have made more sense."

The general feeling amongst The Bold Type fans is that Kat shouldn't be editor-in-chief of Scarlet. She didn't have a great end to her time at the magazine, and she has been busy running for office and starting a podcast. Kat is responsible for many inspiring and powerful moments on The Bold Type, and it would be cool to see what else she could do.
