Into the Spider-Verse's Peni Parker Comes To Marvel Contest of Champions
Developer Kabam recently let loose Peni Parker on Marvel Contest of Champions, adding yet another Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse character to the mix. A 14-year-old high school student, Peni Parker is an alternate version of Spider-Man who first appeared in during the Edge of Spider-Verse run in late 2014. A few short years later, she cameoed in the Into the Spider-Verse animated film.
Unsurprisingly, a few other Spider-Verse characters have made their way to Marvel Contest of Champions, as well. One such hero includes Spider-Ham, who joined the fray in December 2020. Spider-Gwen debuted in the fighting game back in 2015, years ahead of the comic book premise's translation to film. The Spider-Man characters continuously prove amongst the more popular combatants in Marvel Contest of Champions, and it's clear that trend will persist with the advent of another alternate web-slinger - Peni Parker.
A recent update for Marvel Contest of Champions added Peni Parker to the mobile fighting game, complete with the SP//dr suit she so skillfully pilots. In a post on the Play Contest of Champions website, developer Kabam outlines Peni's strengths, weaknesses, and abilities. Thanks to her powerful Sync-Shield, an Empowered Block serves as one of the hero's more notable qualities, allowing Peni to block hits without taking damage until the shield breaks. And despite the formidability of the Auto-Block, some opponents will be able to break through with Unblockable Attacks. Fortunately, the SP//dr suit proves formidable in its own right, specifically with regards to active immunities that remove the threat of poison and incinerate effects.
Peni Parker undoubtedly makes for a smart addition to the already robust Marvel Contest of Champions roster. Though the game initially hit mobile platforms in 2014, it's clear Kabam remains committed to regularly expanding upon the content offerings.
Marvel Contest of Champions is so extensive, in fact, that Marvel launched a comic based on the interactive experience in 2015. Simply titled Contest of Champions, the limited series ran 10 issues between 2015 and 2016, featuring the likes of Captain America, Captain Marvel, Iron Man, and Spider-Man. Though its story arc came to a close just a short while after it began, fans can still get their fill in the mobile game from which it was derived.
Marvel Contest of Champions is out now across Android and iOS devices.
