How Much Jennifer Lawrence Was Paid For Don't Look Up Revealed

Actor Jennifer Lawrence netted a massive payday for Netflix's upcoming movie Don't Look Up. Lawrence's highly anticipated return to acting will see her star alongside Leonardo DiCaprio as a low-level astronomer who is tasked with informing the world that there is a meteor hurtling towards earth. Don't Look Up is directed by Adam McKay, who began his career directing comedies like Anchorman and Step Brothers before shifting to more dramatic fare with The Big Short and Vice. Still, the director's films have maintained their biting comedy and his latest looks to be no different.

An early teaser for Don't Look Up saw DiCaprio and Lawrence's characters inform the President and her son, played by Meryl Streep and Jonah Hill respectively, about the impending threat. Of course, the pair react in a manner that is not in line with the severity of the situation, putting the astronomers in an awkward position. Mark Rylance, Timothée Chalamet, Tyler Perry, Ron Perlman, Ariana Grande, Kid Cudi, Cate Blanchett, Matthew Perry, Chris Evans, and Michael Chiklis also star. Netflix has yet to announce a release date for the film.

Now, a new report from Variety reveals that Lawrence's role in Don't Look Up has landed her on the list of 2021's highest paid actors. The actress scored a $25 million payday for the upcoming film, making her the highest paid female actor of the year. DiCaprio netted $30 million for the same film. The only other two women on the list are Julia Roberts and Sandra Bullock. All in all, Lawrence is the seventh highest paid actor of 2021, with Roberts and Bullock at eight and nine, respectively.

After her breakout role in 2010's Winter's Bone, Lawrence quickly shot to stardom as one of the most in-demand actors in Hollywood. Over the next two years, Lawrence would debut in two major franchises, playing Katniss Everdeen in The Hunger Games movies and Mystique in the revived X-Men series. Throughout the next decade, Lawrence would star in several films a year all while managing massive pressure from the industry as its new rising star. Lawrence would go on to win an Academy Award for Silver Linings Playbook before earning several more nominations.

After 2019's Dark Phoenix, though, Lawrence revealed that she was taking a break from acting. Don't Look Up will be her grand return to the screen before she tackles other major roles and while it won't be in theaters, it certainly seems like it could be a return to form for the acclaimed actress. Teaming up with an Oscar nominated director and acting amongst the cream of the crop of Hollywood, Don't Look Up is one of the most highly anticipated films of the fall and despite the fact that Netflix hasn't announced a release date for the film, it can't come soon enough.
