FFXIV Contest Asks Players To Design Their Own Class Weapons
A new contest is being held for Final Fantasy XIV that will allow fans to design weapons for its current set of jobs. The game will be adding the Reaper and Sage jobs in the upcoming FFXIV Endwalker expansion, but those aren't part of the contest.
The weapons in Final Fantasy XIV are tied to specific classes, and they can drastically alter the combat strength of a character. For many people, the aesthetics of a weapon are just as important as its stats. It's possible to alter the appearance of equipment in FFXIV with the aid of glamour prisms, allowing players to tailor the aesthetics of all of their gear.
Final Fantasy XIV players now have the opportunity to design their own weapons for the game. A new contest has been announced on the official Final Fantasy XIV website, for players to design job-specific weapons. 18 winners will be selected, with each one being chosen from the different categories. Contestants are free to enter as many times as they want. 18 winners will have their weapon brought into the game, and they will win a Great Paraserpent in-game item. 100 finalists will also receive the Grand Paraserpent, while an additional 300 runner-ups will win a Bluebird Earring, a Scarf of Wondrous Wit, a Mandragora Choker, an Ahriman Choker, a Noble Barding, a Gaelicap, and a haircut matching Final Fantasy 7's Cloud Strife.
The contest is now live and it will run until October 4, 2021, and winners will be announced by April 30, 2022. The website has templates for each weapon type, which the contestants need to stay within in order to match the average weapons in the game. The players can use digital entries or scanned versions of hand-drawn images and can submit them through the official entry form, which can be found on Square Enix's website. The contestant will need a character in FFXIV in order to enter the contest, as information regarding the character is required as part of the entry process.
The weaponry in the Final Fantasy MMO consists of the standard fantasy video game fare, like swords, wands, and lances. However, there are also classes with unconventional weapons, like the gunblade used by the Gunbreaker or the star globe used by FFXIV's Astrologian. There is a lot of scope for wannabe weapon designers to work with, and it's the ones that stand out from the crowd that are more likely to get the attention of Square Enix.
Final Fantasy XIV is available on PC.
