DC Comics' New Suicide Squad Could Easily Kill Superman

The Suicide Squad has time and again proven itself to be an incredibly efficient group of fighters no matter the team’s make-up, and DC’s latest iteration of the team proves that sentiment true as they have shown they could easily kill Superman. Likely driven by the recent release of The Suicide Squad, DC is stacking this team of antiheroes with members who, together, can take out the Man of Steel himself.
In Swamp Thing #6 by Ram V with art by Mike Perkins and Mike Spicer, the Suicide Squad has been tasked with facilitating another coverup by the U.S. government, this time concerning a potentially deadly waste spill in India that has caused an environmental disaster. In light of the damage to the environment, mother earth’s greatest protector Swamp Thing steps up to the plate. But before Swamp Thing can inflict any real damage to the team of militarized villains, the issue ends, leaving fans on the edge of their seats as to what will happen next.
Setting aside this Suicide Squad's current mission, the team itself is chock-full of villains who separately could give Superman a run for his money. One of the members, Parasite, has gone toe-to-toe with Supes many times in the past, including in the reworking of the villain’s origin in Superman: Secret Origin #4. In the issue, Rudy Jones is exposed to toxic material derived from Kryptonite and becomes the villainous Parasite. The nature of his origin is the reason he is such a challenge for Superman, as his power originally comes from Superman’s only weakness.
Aside from Parasite, there is also Nightmare Nurse and Chemo. Nightmare Nurse is a proven sorceress whose dark magic usage is notably powerful, which could be a problem for a Kryptonian famously vulnerable to magic. Chemo, however, is a danger to Superman not because of its power against Clark Kent, but the impact its abilities can have on those around the Man of Steel. If Superman strikes Chemo, the poison released from its body can kill anyone in the surrounding area. Superman’s concern for the people he has sworn to protect makes fighting Chemo a unique challenge, one-on-one Superman can come up with a strategy to use against the villain, but with Chemo a part of a deadly group, Superman would be in trouble.
Parasite’s power comes from Superman’s weakness, Nightmare Nurse wields a power Superman can’t control or understand, and Chemo threatens the lives of everyone around it, leaving Superman distracted and vulnerable. This mixture of complementary powers among the different team members applying pressure to each of Superman’s vulnerabilities proves DC’s new Suicide Squad could easily kill Superman.
