When God Of War: Ragnarok Gameplay Will Most Likely Be Revealed
God of War: Ragnarok is one of the most anticipated upcoming PlayStation games, garnering hype despite how little information has been revealed about it so far. Not actually officially subtitled "Ragnarok," the yet-unnamed sequel will serve as a continuation of the critically acclaimed God of War reboot. Fans are eager to see more, and there are a few likely places Sony's Santa Monica Studio could reveal God of War: Ragnarok gameplay soon.
The sequel was first announced during the September 2020 PlayStation 5 Showcase with a teaser trailer that revealed a new logo, teased a story about Norse mythology's Ragnarök, and revealed an initial release window of 2021. No gameplay was shown during the trailer, and there were no hints about when fans could expect a full unveiling.
In June 2021, Santa Monica Studio announced God of War: Ragnarok has been delayed into 2022 and will also launch on PS4, in addition to PS5. The decision was made to help the team maintain safety during the COVID-19 pandemic. Santa Monica Studio also stated there were big things coming, and fans speculated the studio would soon show official gameplay.
PlayStation recently confirmed a State of Play event for July 8, featuring gameplay for Bethesda's Deathloop and updates on several upcoming indie and third-party titles. The announcement also specified updates for first-party games like Horizon Forbidden West and the God of War sequel would not be included, but Sony said it will have updates on these titles during the summer.
Given this announcement, one likely option for a God of War: Ragnarok gameplay reveal is simply another State of Play event later in the summer. Typically, Sony uses its own showcases to give fans a deeper look at upcoming PlayStation exclusives, with the most recent event highlighting around 15 minutes of gameplay for Horizon Forbidden West. Sony may give God of War: Ragnarok the same treatment, dedicating the majority of a State of Play event or a longer PlayStation Showcase event to focus on Kratos and Atreus' new adventure.
God of War: Ragnarok gameplay could also be revealed during The Game Awards in December. Many studios go the route of revealing new information about upcoming titles at large gaming events, and Sony Santa Monica used E3 2016 to reveal the first God of War's gameplay. A trailer at The Game Awards could be a smart play, as the show's reputation for reveals could help increase viewership and allow the studio ample time to work on the game beforehand. For now, fans will have to wait and see when God of War: Ragnarok will be fully unveiled.
