WandaVision’s Paul Bettany Shares BTS Image of 1970s Episode
WandaVision star Paul Bettany (Vision) shared a fun behind the scenes picture from the 70's episode of the hit Marvel limited series. The show explored the aftermath of Wanda Maximoff's (Elizabeth Olsen) grief and trauma after the loss of her brother Pietro (Aaron-Taylor Johnson) and the love of her life, Vision. WandaVision was a major hit upon its premiere on the Disney+ streaming platform, garnering positive acclaim from fans and critics alike. One of WandaVision's greatest aspects was its homages to decades of sitcoms, starting with the 50's and ending at the 2010's.
Given that WandaVision was set after the events of 2019's Avengers: Endgame, the series' greatest mystery was the question of Westview. In particular, audiences were curious to see how Vision was still alive after being killed twice in Avengers: Infinity War, becoming an unusual couple with Wanda as they lived in the town together. The third episode, "Now In Color," which was dedicated to 70's sitcoms, served as the turning point episode for WandaVision. While the episode was full of classic 70's fashions and sitcom hijinks, it was also the first episode where Vision started to question what was really going on Westview. "Now In Color," also included the first time Wanda broke character from her sitcom facade, revealing that something darker was happening under the colorful sitcom surface.
Bettany shared a fun behind-the-scenes photo from filming, "Now In Color," on his Instagram page. The photo features him and Olsen in the 70's outfits they wear in the opening for episode three. Check out the photo below and Bettany's amusing caption.
Although WandaVision ended back in March, the love for the series is still strong among viewers and critics alike. Now that the show has ended its run and there's no longer any risk of spoilers, hopefully Bettany will release more behind the scenes photos from his time filming WandaVision. The show has also gained the honor of being the first Marvel property to be nominated for the Emmys, garnering a whopping total of 23 nominations.
What really made WandaVision such a great series was how the storytelling stuck to Wanda's journey of accepting her grief, culminating in her becoming the Scarlet Witch of legend. Sitcoms were Wanda's way of escaping from the overwhelming pain of her loss, and the show cleverly never let viewers forget that all wasn't quite right in Westview from the very start. Once Wanda accepted her true power she finally let go of her sitcom dreamworld, but sadly the Scarlet Witch still has yet to get the true happy ending she's always wanted.
