The Avengers' Secret Traitor Just Launched The Next World War Hulk

Warning! Spoilers for Avengers #46 below.

Marvel Comics is gearing towards a new World War She-Hulk event and new previews reveal a traitor is the one who turns the hero over to Russian heroes of Winter Guard. In a sneak peek at Avengers #46, Gorilla Man, who's worked alongside the Avengers for a majority of Jason Aaron's run, shuts down the alarms and allows the Russian team to infiltrate Avengers Mountain.

Kenneth Hale is Gorilla-Man, as he turned into the primate after killing the original Gorilla-Man in a battle in Africa. He's worked with a number of superteams including the X-Men, S.H.I.E.L.D., as well as the Agents of Atlas. Most recently, Gorilla-Man was recruited as one of the Agents of Wakanda alongside Ka-Zar, Odin, and Doctor Nemesis, where he assisted the Avengers and gained access to Avengers Mountain. Gorilla-Man previously betrayed the Avengers during the War of the Realms and it appears he hasn't learned his lesson for working for the bad guys. Once again, Gorilla-Man is turning on the Avengers.

In a new preview for Avengers #46 (H/T CBR.com) by Jason Aaron, Javier Garron, David Curiel, and VC's Cory Petit, She-Hulk (in what appears to be a look towards the future) is being tortured and chained down in a mysterious prison. In the present, Tony Stark seeks the assistance of Gorilla-Man, their head of security, as their Celestial base is getting low on power. Gorilla-Man swings right by Stark and heads for the Teleportation Room, where he runs a security drill that disables sensors and disables some of its security.

Gorilla-Man waits beside the teleporter, as the Winter Guard is transmitted onto Avengers Mountain. The team features some of the Russian Avengers' heaviest hitters, including Red Guardian, Ursa Major, and the Red Widow. Gorilla-Man is eager to sell-out the Avengers, informing the squad there are only five Avengers on-site, as well as the Phoenix and Starbrand. He tells them Thor is busy on Asgard, while Ghost-Rider is "wherever the **** Ghost Riders" go. Revealing he's poisoned Avengers Mountain, Gorilla-Man says the Winter Guard doesn't have long. The Red Widow asks "where is she?" assumably referring to She-Hulk.

It's unclear why Gorilla-Man betrayed the Avengers in this case, but his previous relationship with Ursa Major, who was also one of the Agents of Wakanda, likely was the starting point. Avengers Mountain is extremely vulnerable which is bad news for both She-Hulk and the team as a whole. Getting betrayed by their head of security means the Avengers aren't as in control as previously believed - with those cracks leading to the upcoming World War She-Hulk event. Avengers #46 is in stores next week.
