Maneater Player Discovers Spongebob Squarepants Easter Egg In The Ocean
While exploring the depths of the ocean in Maneater, one player discovered a clever Spongebob Squarepants Easter egg. Tripwire Interactive's shaRkPG came as a surprise upon its release on PC and consoles in May 2020. A must-play modern RPG, Maneater casts players in the cold-blooded frame of a shark who must do everything in their power to survive the harsh elements of the world around them.
The open-world title first made waves on digital storefronts, then later received a physical release and an upgrade for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Maneater made its way to the Nintendo Switch earlier this year, giving another audience a chance to experience the thrill of growing from a small shark pup to an incredibly intimidating apex predator. And players will soon have the opportunity to dive into shark-infested waters once more, as Tripwire Interactive is currently working on the Truth Quest expansion, which remains on track for a summer 2021 release. Clearly, players have yet to uncover all of the secrets tucked away in the main game.
Reddit user Legendary-Walk recently shared a screenshot of an interesting find they made while exploring Maneater's vast underwater locales. A Spongebob Squarepants Easter egg represents the discovery in question, with the Nickelodeon character's pineapple home appearing on the Maneater seafloor. It's a fairly detailed replica of the iconic house, too, complete with a pair of windows and a little door. Check it out in the screenshot featured below:
Neat references to other pop culture staples are always fun to see in video games. An homage to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild seems to count among the most overlooked Easter eggs in Among Us, for example. And the recently released Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart is replete with clever nods to other properties, including the likes of Pirates of the Caribbean.
As noted above, Tripwire Interactive has even more plans in store for Maneater this summer. Details regarding the Truth Quest story DLC remain under lock and key, but developers previously confirmed that players can expect to explore a brand-new region. New tools of destruction should enter the fray, too, along with additional ways for the playable sharks to grown even bigger in size.
Players can swim into the depths of Maneater on Nintendo Switch, PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S platforms.
