Mandalorian Season 3 Is Reportedly Already Filming | Screen Rant
Reports indicate that production has already started on The Mandalorian season 3. Starring Pedro Pascal as the title character, The Mandalorian was Disney+'s first certified hit, making waves when it debuted on the platform. As the first live-action Star Wars series, The Mandalorian had high expectations, especially after the divisive reaction to the sequel trilogy's second entry, The Last Jedi. Fortunately, Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni used the vast universe to create a Western-influenced series that followed Mando and his companion, Baby Yoda (now known as Grogu) as they traversed the galaxy.
The Mandalorian season 2 upped the ante on just about everything the show had done in its first season, increasing its budget and expanding on the story. Mando's main mission to protect Grogu became a journey to help him discover his Force powers. The season ended with a surprise cameo from Luke Skywalker, who came to take Grogu away. Simultaneously, it set up an exploration of Mandalore and the culture there as Din Djarin now wields the Darksaber, something Bo-Katan has been seeking for quite some time.
It's unclear in which direction The Mandalorian season 3 will go and details around the series have remained under wraps. Now, ACS reports that production has already begun on the upcoming season. No other details were given.
After the finale of The Mandalorian season 2, another spinoff of the series was confirmed to be in the works. The Book of Boba Fett wrapped filming in June and looks set to take The Mandalorian's usual premiere slot of November. When The Mandalorian season 3 could premiere, though, is unclear. If filming has commenced, it's quite possible Disney could be using the same strategy they've employed with their Marvel series, ensuring that a Star Wars series is on the air for the majority of the year. With Ahsoka and various other Star Wars shows in the works, that certainly seems possible.
Still, the question remains: what exactly will happen in The Mandalorian season 3? The season 2 finale saw Mando willingly separate with Grogu and, seeing as that's been the central dynamic for two seasons, it seems like The Mandalorian will be going in a new direction for its upcoming season. With the show clearly interested in explore the backstory of Mandlore and the titular warriors, the series could do this through the lens of Bo-Katan and her search for the Darksaber, but it's unclear if Katee Sackoff will be returning for The Mandalorian season 3. Luckily, if filming has actually commenced, that news and more details may come out sooner rather than later.
