Batman Reveals the Secret Origin of New Fortnite Villain Doctor Slone
Warning! Spoilers ahead for Batman/Fortnite: Zero Point #6
In the finale issue of DC Comics' Batman crossover series with Fortnite, the truly sinister nature and origin of Fornite's new villain known as Doctor Slone has been revealed. While the enigmatic doctor and leader of the island's Imagined Order has been known for a while, this series and Fornite's current season have finally given her a proper introduction. It certainly seems as though she'd bad news, working with some truly vile characters for a dark purpose that will no doubt affect the DC Universe just as much as Fortnite Island going forward into the future.
Doctor Slone was first featured as the voice on the phone speaking to Agent John Jones after surviving the attack by Galactus during the Marvel crossover known as The Nexus War. Working as a leader of the Imagined Order, her organization controls Fortnite Island, doing everything it can to keep fighters and assets it's brought in contained within the time loop of never-ending battles that resets every 22 minutes. However, Batman and Catwoman manage to break out of the loop after finding themselves on the island in Batman/Fortnite: Zero Point from Donald Mustard, Christos Gage, Reilly Brown, Nelson DeCastro, John Kalisz, and Andworld Design.
Now, Batman/Fortnite: Zero Point #6 sees Batman and Catwoman having made it back home to Gotham City after finding a way to use the Zero Point to travel the Omniverse. While Batman hopes they have seen the last of the Zero Point and the island when he blows up the rift after they go through, it seems as though there are darker plans afoot. At the issue's end, Deathstroke's employers are revealed, as he had been sent to the island as well to plant an anchor device after Batman had unlocked the secrets of the Zero Point. However, not only has he been working for Lex Luthor and the Batman Who Laughs, but they are all in league with Doctor Slone herself.
Apparently, Slone's end of the bargain looks like it includes a rift opening up just outside the Daily Planet building in Metropolis, teasing Superman's arrival as a playable character on the island later this season. While it's unclear what else she's planning for the DC Universe (or Fortnite Island for that matter), it can't be good. Her increased presence and more direct action on both worlds certainly doesn't bode well for the future.
Between this series and the alien invasion currently taking place in the Fortnite game itself, Slone has been front and center for the very first time, and all kinds of Easter eggs and references about her past have been revealed. DC has revealed plans for a new one-shot crossover between Batman and Fortnite. There's certainly room for Doctor Slone to be fleshed out in this issue and future comics, as well as the natural lore of the island as it continues to be revealed with each season of the massively popular game.
