The Flash Movie Producer Urges Fans To Stop Sharing Unofficial Supergirl Set Photos
The Flash movie producer Barbara Muschietti is urging fans to stop sharing unofficial set photos of Supergirl. Ezra Miller’s first DCEU appearance as Barry Miller came as a cameo in 2016’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and was later featured much more prominently in Justice League. Since then, a solo Flash movie has been gestating, suffering numerous setbacks along the way. Now, ahead of its November 2022 release, the Flash’s first solo outing is currently in production from It director Andy Muschietti with a script from Birds of Prey writer Christina Hodson.
Plot details are being kept tightly under wraps, but it has been speculated that The Flash will adapt the well-known comics storyline Flashpoint, which sees Allen go back in time to prevent his mother’s death, altering the trajectory of time. Just like the MCU’s phase 4, the DCEU film is expected to explore the mysterious multiverse, which will likely explain its inclusion of two Bruce Wayne’s in Ben Affleck and Michael Keaton. The Flash movie is also anticipated for the DCEU debut of Supergirl, as portrayed by Sasha Calle. A character initially hinted at by an Easter Egg in Zack Snyder's Man of Steel.
With production currently taking place in London, multiple unofficial set photos revealing Supergirl’s suit have leaked, prompting the film's producer to make an appeal online. Barbara Muschietti shared a post to her Instagram story, urging the “Flash community” to “not share photos of Sasha Calle filming in her supergirl costume on set.” The post claims this will “make the first official photo of her as Supergirl that more special.” A screenshot of her story, which was initially shared by @theflashmovieunofficial, can be seen below, courtesy of The Direct:
In the age of social media, these set photos were bound to surface online at some point. Unfortunately, Muschietti's appeal is coming a bit too late, as nothing will now be able to stop the Flash photos from spreading online. This is understandably frustrating for production crews who go to great lengths to ensure secrecy and marketing teams who meticulously plan the first official costume reveal.
While other DCEU productions such as Dwayne Johnson’s Black Adam have been able to avoid any major set leaks thus far, The Flash is currently filming in a heavily populated area in London, where passerby and paparazzi snapping photos is inevitable. Perhaps The Flash could take a page out of Shazam! Fury of the Gods’ book and embraces the leaks by unveiling the first official look at Sasha Calle’s Supergirl.
