Spider-Man Faces His Most Sinister Villains In Stunning Cover Art
Warning! Potential spoilers for Spider-Man: Sinister War #1 by Marvel Comics
The Sinister War is coming to Marvel Comics and a new cover for the upcoming event shows just how much trouble Spider-Man is about to get into. In a stunning piece by artist Brian Reber, Peter Parker faces off against some of his greatest villains, a large amount of whom have been part of the Sinister Six. The art showcases everyone from Shocker, to the Hobgoblin, to Taskmaster.
With Nick Spencer's run on Spider-Man coming to a close, his Sinister War arc alongside Mark Bagley will show his greatest villains face-off against one another. Doctor Octopus' Sinister Six is about to take on the Vulture's Savage Six, in a battle for villain supremacy. Getting caught in the crossfire of the deadly battle, Spider-Man will be left having to navigate through his villain's own Civil War and pick up the pieces during and after their dangerous fights. Sinister War is set to bring back a number of villains, including the recently revived Electro.
On Twitter, artist Brian Reber revealed a stunning cover for Sinister War #1 featuring some of the greatest villains the web-slinger has ever battled. The wraparound cover is chalked-full of villains, as Spider-Man can only watch as they all charge towards him. Among the villains showcased on the cover include the recently revived Electro (as well as another version of the character), Rhino, multiple version's of Doctor Octopus, the Hobgoblin, his former friend Boomerang, Sandman, Taskmaster, Kraven the Hunter, Shocker, the Lizard, Vulture, Cobra, and Jack O'Lantern.
Once Sinister War and Spencer's run on Spider-Man wraps up, a new creative team is set to take over the book. In the upcoming Amazing Spider-Man #75, referred to as the Spider-Man Beyond arc, Saladin Ahmed, Kelly Thompson, Zeb Wells, Cody Ziglar, and Patrick Gleason will work on a new spin of Spider-Man featuring the return of Ben Reilly and the possible death of Peter Parker. It wouldn't be surprising if Spider-Man was killed in the Sinister War as Marvel establishes the new status quo on the title - although, it's doubtful Peter stayed dead for more than a few issues.
Regardless of what happens during the Sinister War, for Spider-Man fans and collectors, Reber's gorgeous wraparound cover is a must-pickup. Showcasing some of the web-slingers greatest villains all in a single piece is extremely impressive. Will Spider-Man be able to deal with the upcoming Sinister War and most of his bad guys fighting against each other? Readers will find out when Sinister War #1 comes to comic book stores on July 14.
