Far Cry 6's Yara Map Explored In New Gameplay Footage
Extra footage of Far Cry 6 recently emerged online, providing an extended look at the upcoming titles' Cuba-inspired island of Yara. Despite formally announcing the sequel in a summer 2020 Ubisoft Forward event, Ubisoft didn't showcase gameplay of Far Cry 6 until this past May. It was a pretty extensive reveal nonetheless, boasting approximately eight minutes of in-game footage.
The recent reveal of Ubisoft's next big open-world adventure also made note of a firm release date. Players can expect to step into the world of Yara this fall on October 7 to assume the role of protagonist Dani Rojas. A former guerrilla fighter, Dani is an island native who players can assign either a female or male avatar to; better still, the publisher previously confirmed that both versions will feature vocal performances. The title's first big showcase focused much of its runtime on the characters, story, and moment-to-moment action, though. Fortunately, a new video offers a closer look at Yara's rather diverse setting.
As relayed by DSOGaming, YouTube channel Cycu1 has shared "new extended gameplay" footage of Far Cry 6's island setting. Yara's wilderness is shown in great detail in earlier portions of the roughly eight-minute video, with sandy beaches and gorgeous waterfalls filling out the scenery. Some of the towns and small villages receive plenty of screen time, too, with the former's architecture and vehicles perfectly encapsulating the 1950s aesthetic of a world trapped in time by a lack of resources from beyond its borders.
Far Cry 6's Cuba-inspired world has already come under fire, specifically due to Ubisoft insisting the politically-charged narrative isn't political. The publisher later reversed course on this front, with Narrative Director Navid Khavari issuing a statement that clarifies the political intent of Far Cry 6. "Our story is political," Khavari wrote in a post on the official Ubisoft blog.
More of the franchise's new entry will be shown during the next Ubisoft Forward event, which goes live this weekend on Saturday, June 12 at 11:00 am PT. The French publisher also intends to formally unveil Rainbow Six Extraction, previously subtitled Quarantine. Other Ubisoft titles expected to receive updates on Saturday include Assassin's Creed Valhalla, Riders Republic, Watch Dogs: Legion, and Rainbow Six Siege.
Far Cry 6 comes to PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S platforms.
