DC's Darkseid Just Stopped Making Sense | Screen Rant

Contradictory details about Darkseid have recently been revealed in DC's Infinite Frontier and Justice League: Last Ride. As a result, the ruler of Apokolips doesn’t feel like such a consistent tyrant anymore.
DC Comics’ most recent initiative Infinite Frontier has promised to pay tribute to beloved characters’ histories, while also incorporating new elements to expand on the versions that fans know. The biggest villain of the DC Universe, Darkseid was reintroduced in Infinite Frontier #0 written by several creators including Michael Conrad, Brian Michael Bendis, Joshua Williamson, Scott Snyder, Tim Sheridan, Joëlle Jones, and Becky Cloonan with art by John Romita Jr., Jamal Igle, Rafa Sandoval, Stephen Byrne, Joëlle Jones, Alitha Martinez, Jorge Jimenez, David Marquez, and John Timms. Several mysteries plague Darkseid’s reappearance during this new era, and only more questions are coming up as a result of a new comic.
In Justice League: Last Ride written by Chip Zdarsky with art by Miguel Mendonça, the Justice League faces Darkseid yet again, as he attacks both Earth and Oa. However, with the ruler of Apokolips’ reintroduction in Infinite Frontier, this appears to be strange behavior, as it’s been presented that the current iteration has moved on from such low scale atrocities. Darkseid doesn’t seem to be focused on conquering planets, or even a single multiverse, as he has advanced into a Omniverse-level threat. When Darkseid appears in all his glory in Infinite Frontier #0, he proclaims, “Now reconstituted from my lesser forms, all my past aspects have become one. My true form. My power exceeds what it was before the first Crisis. It is time for the lower beings of creation to remember who they fear in their darkest hours, in their deepest moments of despair. This new multiverse is now infinite. But I am finite. I am final.”
At the time of Infinite Frontier’s debut, Darkseid’s future seemed like a major step in making him an even more threatening presence within mainstream DC continuity. Of course, Justice League: Last Ride is a story set in the future, as the League takes on their final mission together. It’s possible that something that occurred along the way in the timeline brought Darkseid back to decimating planets. Similarly, other issues have been raised regarding Darkseid’s return, as his introductory dialogue seems to mean that he is the only version of himself in existence within the DC Omniverse, with Apokolips being located outside of the Omniverse itself.
Readers have questioned if Darkseid is referring to himself as being similar to Scarlet Witch, who is a Nexus being within the Marvel Universe. This would mean that according to Infinite Frontier, Darkseid is now the same throughout all the corners of the multiverse. His proclamation could also mean that he is the one Darkseid who transcends various versions of himself. Whether breaking out of prison multiplied Darkseid’s existence across the Ominverse, or DC already forgot his place in the Omniverse, his ongoing role in the multiverse feels unnecessarily convoluted.
