Contra Returns Brings Run-and-Gun Shooting To Mobile In July
The classic Konami Code will soon be called on once more, as Contra Returns is coming to mobile devices in July. Contra Returns is the latest entry in the run and gun franchise, and it will soon be coming to Android and iOS devices.
The original Contra had a simple concept: aliens have attacked the Earth, so a couple of action hero lookalikes need to run around and shoot them. This was a lot easier said than done, as the original Contra was brutally difficult thanks to players only being able to take one hit per life. The incredible difficulty became a staple of the series, as many fans love the thrill of surviving an onslaught of alien fire. Konami has rereleased the older Contra games in the past, but the most recent new entry was Contra: Rogue Corps, which had a poor critial reception.
Contra Returns has been available in Asia for several years now, where it has an English localization option, but it will soon receive an official international release. According to TiMi Studios, Contra Returns will be coming to iOS and Android on July 26. Fans are now able to pre-register their interest in the game on the App Store and Google Play.
Contra Returns is bringing the classic Contra gameplay to mobile phones, featuring the classic characters from the series with an HD makeover. There will also be new characters, each with their own customizable weapons and RPG-style skills. The international version of Contra Returns also featured crossovers with other franchises, which resulted in Green Arrow and Terminator appearing in the game, though they have yet to be announced for the English release. Contra Returns will have its own storyline, which involves the return of the Red Falcon and a war against the army of zombies it has unleashed upon the world.
Contra Returns contains over 200 levels that are inspired by stages from the other entries in the series, in addition to a number of game modes, which include multiplayer for up to four players. (It bears mentioning that some modes have a life bar, rather than one-hit kills.) The lackluster Contra: Rogue Corps might have soured the series for some fans, but Contra Returns might be able to win back the crowd once it launches this summer.
Contra Returns will be available for Android and iOS devices on July 26, 2021. Pre-registration is now available on mobile devices.
