Beloved Left 4 Dead Characters Crossover Into Zombie Army 4

The latest free character pack for Zombie Army 4: Dead War allows Left 4 Dead fans to jump into the chaos with their favorite characters, including Bill, Francis, Louis, and Zoey. Zombie Army reentered the spotlight in early 2020 with the release of Dead War; in many respects, it manages to return to the center of attention every so often.

Rebellion Developments' zombie-centric sequel helped headline PlayStation Plus' April 2021 offerings, for example, alongside the likes of Days Gone and Oddworld: Soulstorm. Zombie Army 4 hit Xbox Game Pass the very same month, then soon thereafter received a free PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S update that boosted frame rate, increased resolution, and reduced loading times across the board. Now players can sink their teeth into an even more exciting update, an all-new character pack that sees Rebellion's undead franchise team up with another big-name zombie brand - Left 4 Dead.

A new trailer for the Abaddon Asylum mission in Zombie Army 4's three-part Return to Hell campaign opens with a rather surprising reveal. Rebellion is unleashing Left 4 Dead Character Pack 1 today, June 22, as a free add-on for all players. Thus, Dead War players can strap on the boots of classic Left 4 Dead heroes, namely Bill, Francis, Louis, and Zoey. The trailer then outlines what fans can expect from Abaddon Asylum, the second mission for the aforementioned Return to Hell arc. New character skins, weapons, headgear, and weapon skins feature in the latest Season 3 chapter, which also introduces a monster who patiently awaits in "the heart of the asylum." See it all in action in the video linked below:

The Left 4 Dead content is free, but players interested in exploring Abaddon Asylum must either purchase the DLC separately or grab it via Zombie Army 4's Season Pass 3. Fortunately, Left 4 Dead no longer seems as dead and buried as it once was, considering how Dying Light gave the brand a new lease on life last year with a crossover update of its own.

And, of course, Left 4 Dead will continue to live on thanks to developer Turtle Rock's spiritual successor, Back 4 Blood. The WBIE-published multiplayer shooter is slated to launch this coming October on PC, last-gen, and current-gen hardware. By all accounts, it's shaping up to be an experience that fans of the Valve property won't want to miss.
