Animal Crossing Glitches That Make New Horizons Better
Strong emphasis is placed on customization and freedom in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, as players are provided with the opportunity to decide everything from what their island should look like to which villagers will be allowed to live there. However, some fans may still think the game is too restrictive when it comes to accomplishing certain things. To fix this, players can opt to turn to glitches instead of waiting for updates.
Since its release in 2020, New Horizons has been criticized by some for its lack of substantial gameplay updates, and many players have started looking for new ways to make the game interesting. Although New Horizons does introduce regular events and holidays, these repeat on an annual basis, meaning that returning players will have already played through them once over. Instead of relying on these events, they often make use of island customization and multiplayer features to find reasons to return to the game.
One of the strangest examples of emergent gameplay in Animal Crossing: New Horizons has come from the discovery of a few of the glitches present in the game. Some players have found creative ways to make use of what normally would be considered a problem, and by doing so have managed to create new and unique experiences that the game's creators seemingly never intended. Although Nintendo's consistent updates to New Horizons have resulted in many bugs being patched, there are still a few that players can make use of.
Although Animal Crossing: New Horizons allows players to place outdoor pools and bathtubs around the island, there's no way to climb into them or take a seat. However, a now-infamous New Horizons glitch lets them do just that. By placing a flat object near an elevated curve, players can glitch into nearby items, including bodies of water. From there, they can use the sitting emote to have their character take a seat inside of the pool. Some fans, though, still hope that one day Nintendo will add this feature in as proper gameplay.
The bridge clip glitch was partially fixed in the 1.3.0 version of New Horizons, but it hasn't been patched out of the game altogether just yet. If a rock or item is located close enough to the side railing of a bridge, players can hit their shovel against it and clip backwards onto the bridge's railing. In previous versions of Animal Crossing, they could then walk off of the bridge entirely and run through rivers or the ocean. As it is now, they're only able to get up onto the railing itself, but this can still provide for some unique photo opportunities.
Under normal circumstances, the game doesn't allow players to plant trees on the very edge of cliffs. This can prove frustrating to fans who have a very specific idea in mind when terraforming their New Horizons island. Fortunately, a glitch exists that allows them to work around the issue. By creating a 3x3 cliff with one corner cut off and placing a water tile diagonally below the cliff, players can plant a tree in the middle of the 3x3 space. From there, they can even remove all the corners, creating a one-block tree pillar. This could provide some unique new customization opportunities for Animal Crossing: New Horizons players looking to change up their town.
