Love Island: 10 Most Popular Contestants, Ranked By Instagram Follower Count
After a year-long hiatus, the UK version of Love Island is poised to return to ITV on July 7, 2021. While the cast members have yet to be announced, whoever ends up living in the villa is sure to increase the popularity once the show begins airing.
After all, that is precisely what happened to the past cast members, many of whom have garnered a huge social media following after appearing on the reality dating series. But which personalities have accrued the most followers in the last year or so.
10 Olivia Attwood - 1.9 Million Followers
British glamour model Olivia Attwood hadn't logged a single movie or TV credit prior to joining Love Island season 3, where she remained in the villa for an impressive 44 episodes. Since then, she's tallied over 15 credits, including her own spinoff series.
En route to gaining roughly 2 million Instagram followers, Attwood recently appeared in 16 episodes of the reality series The Only Way is Essex in 2019-2020 before starring in her own series, Olivia Meets Her Match in 2020.
9 Jack Fincham - 2 Million Followers
Like Olivia Attwood, Jack Fincham made his TV debut on Love Island. He spent 57 episodes on season 4 of the show, en route to winning the entire competition with his girlfriend Dani Dyer. Alas, he had a baby with another woman ninth months later.
Since his time on the show, Fincham has increased his visibility by appearing on such reality dating TV shows as Don't Rock the Boat and the talk show Loose Women. He is poised to make his official acting debut in the upcoming feature The Last Heist. Jack currently has just over 2 million Instagram followers.
8 Chris Hughes - 2.1 Million Followers
Olivia Attwood's main squeeze in Love Island season 3, Chris Hughes, also continues to add to his reality-TV resume. He has gained 2.1 million Instagram followers in part by starring on the spinoff series, Chris & Olivia: Crackin On in 2018.
Hughes has also appeared in 25 episodes of Loose Women, and like Jack Fincham, is set to earn his first real acting credit in the near future. Hughes plays a Football Fan in the impending film Rise of the Foot Soldier: The Tony Tucker Story.
7 Kem Cetinay - 2.3 Million Followers
With 2.3 million Instagram followers, British TV host, presenter, and businessman Kem Cetinay continues to appear as himself on a slew of reality TV programming. However, not all of them deal with romance.
Cetinay has built a healthy following by being a digital presenter for Dancing on Ice, as well as competing on such shows as I'm a Celebrity: Extra Camp, Happy Hour with Olly Murs, and more. After his time on Love Island, Kem has also released a grime track with fellow castmate Chris Hughes.
6 Olivia Bowen - 2.5 Million Followers
Despite appearing on very few TV shows following her time on Love Island season 2, during which she finished in 2nd place, Olivia Bowen (formerly Buckman) has amassed 2.5 million IG followers to date.
After placing second her boyfriend Alex Bowen on Love Island, the two got married two years later in 2018. To document their progress, two TLC spinoff series called Olivia and Alex Said Yes and Olivia and Alex: Happily Ever After have been produced.
5 Amber Gill - 2.6 Million Followers
Along with her partner Greg O'Shea, Amber Gill was named winner of Love Island season 5. The highest viewed season of the series attracted more eyeballs than most, leading to Gill's current 2.6 IG followers.
Amber has remained in the spotlight since winning Love Island, making appearances on several shows, including Strictly Come Dancing: It Takes Two, Lorraine, Ant and Dec's Saturday Night Takeaway, and most recently, Loose Women. The Newcastle native posts a ton of workout photos on IG.
4 Maura Higgins - 3.2 Million Followers
Maura Higgins placed 4th on Love Island season 5, turning her long-lasting appearance on the show into a career as a budding model, actress, influencer, and TV personality. All of this has helped her to reach a huge fanbase, with 3.2 million followers on Instagram.
The Irish native has upped her stock by appearing as herself in The Boxer & The Ballroom Dancer, Dancing On Ice, Lorraine, and Loose Women, following in a similar career path as her Love Island castmate Amber Gill.
3 Tommy Fury - 3.4 Million Followers
As the younger brother of world heavyweight boxing champion of the world, Tyson Fury, Tommy "TNT" Fury has parlayed his family celebrity into a massive online following. To date, the professional fighter has 3.4 million IG followers.
When he isn't posting workout photos, Fury can be seen on such British talk and reality TV shows as Soccer AM, Supermarket Sweep, The Boxer & The Ballroom Dancer, and more.
2 Dani Dyer - 3.4 Million Followers
Despite her high-profile split from Jack Fincham after winning Love Island season 4, Dani Dyer has the second-most IG followers of every cast member to date (tied with Tommy Fury).
As one of the few bona fide actors before joining Love Island, Dani Dyer's massive following comes from continuing to act in feature films. Since her time on the show, she's starred in such films as Heckle, Teen Spirit, and has the upcoming horror film 031 in pre-production. Dyer recently gave birth to a baby boy, as seen on her IG account.
1 Molly-Mae Hague - 5.4 Million Followers
With 2 million more IG followers than the next contestant, Molly-Mae Hague is by far the most popular Love Island player. After finishing as a runner-up on Love Island season 5, Molly-Mae remains in a committed relationship with the aforementioned Tommy Fury.
While Molly-Mae appeared in many of the same reality shows that her competitors participated in (listed above), her primary mode of gaining so many eyeballs is her status as a model, IG influencer, and fashionista. When she isn't posting to IG, she's updating her professional tanning website filterbymollymae.com.
