Wonder Woman 1984 Director Has Not Seen Zack Snyder's Justice League

Although the release of Zack Snyder’s Justice League is right around the corner, Patty Jenkins has not seen the cut. While Jenkins is busy promoting Wonder Woman 1984, which was released on December 25th following multiple delays, fans eagerly await the arrival of Snyder’s version of Justice League.

The highly anticipated “Snyder Cut” is set for release this March, a little over three years after Justice League premiered. The director’s cut has been a point of controversy ever since the film’s release in 2017, which was both a critical and box office failure, and reportedly didn’t represent Snyder’s original vision for the film. Snyder was well into post-production when he had to step away from Justice League due to a personal tragedy, and Joss Whedon stepped in to finish the project. This included doing a significant amount of re-shoots aimed at brightening the overall tone of the film and injecting it with humor. Warner Bros. had no intention of releasing Snyder’s version until fans caused a social media storm demanding its release, and it wasn’t until May 2020 that the studio finally announced that Snyder's version would be released as a four-part miniseries on HBO Max.

In a recent interview with Collider, Jenkins spoke about Wonder Woman 1984 and whether she has seen the new version of Justice League. Jenkins responded that she has simply been too busy to ask but that she looks forward to seeing it. Jenkins explained, “I’ve been so busy I haven’t even asked. I’m sure [Snyder] would if I asked. I would love to see it. Oh, actually Gal and I may try to see it sometime soon.”

Even with the forthcoming director’s cut, fans have continued to push the Snyder agenda as they have taken once again to social media and made #restorethesnyderverse a trending topic on Twitter. The “Snyderverse” refers to Snyder’s original plans for the DCEU, which he had plotted out as a five-movie arc that began with 2013’s Man of Steel. Snyder himself made his opinion of Whedon’s version clear when he said that he hopes his cut wipes Whedon’s out of existence. Controversy has continued to surround Whedon who was recently called out by Ray Fisher for his abusive on-set behavior, which led to an internal investigation by WarnerMedia.

While it may seem surprising that Jenkins has yet to see Snyder’s Justice League, it’s truly an understatement when she talks about being busy, as she has multiple massive projects lined up. Warner Bros. announced just two days after the release of Wonder Woman 1984 that Wonder Woman 3 is on the way, while Jenkins is also working on Star Wars: Rogue Squadron as well as another collaboration with Gal Gadot on a Cleopatra movie. Even with the “Snyderverse” trending, it doesn't seem like Warner Bros. has any intention of restoring it, as one DC Studio exec recently commented that he sees the Snyder Cut as a dead end. For now, fans can look forward to the long-awaited Snyder Cut version of Justice League that they have definitely earned.
