GTA Online's Cayo Perico Heist Update Is Live & Playable Now

The new Cayo Perico heist is available now in Grand Theft Auto Online. The heist brings players to a brand new private island owned by a powerful drug lord and tasks them with infiltrating his illustrious compound. As exciting as the prospect is, some fans have bemoaned the new location, considering certain details about it to be a dig at a recent GTA 6 rumor.

As bereft as GTA 6 fans have been, Cayo Perico still looks like a monumental addition to the online game. Rockstar is promising the biggest heist GTA Online has seen yet, with a wealth of features to entertain and excite fans. The island setting is a promising one, and the fact that the entire heist can be played solo is enticing news for single players who don't want to take their chances with random teammates. The initial reveal of the new heist built a lot of hype amongst players on Reddit, who have already produced a wealth of memes to celebrate Rockstar's new island adventure.

And now those excited fans are finally getting the chance to dive into the new content. Rockstar has announced that the Cayo Perico heist is now live in GTA Online. Players can begin their adventure in the new Music Locker nightclub, which has also been advertised by Rockstar as a spot for visiting musicians to host Fortnite-style online concerts. At the launch of the new heist, Moodymann is headlining as the new club's resident DJ. As for the heist itself, Rockstar's announcement has emphasized the vast diversity of choice players will have when taking on the island of Cayo Perico. Players will have ample opportunity to stake out their heist targets before infiltrating them, but setting up beforehand, while encouraged, isn't necessary. Rockstar has also gone into detail about the nuclear submarine players will be using as an HQ during their adventures; this HQ is tricked out with torpedoes, personal quarters for outfit changes, and a bridge for planning. It can also be outfitted with guided missiles, as seen in the recent trailer.

The Cayo Perico Heist will surely keep GTA fans occupied for a good long while, but this hasn't stopped a lot of players from yearning for the sequel to Grand Theft Auto V. The next singleplayer game in the series still hasn't been announced, even after all the years that have passed since the release of GTA V. Some have even wondered if the huge breadth of content being offered by Rockstar in the Cayo Perico Heist is what's been holding up GTA 6. If so, maybe an announcement will be forthcoming now that the expansion is finally here.

Of course, there are other fans who are hoping GTA 6 takes its time. After Cyberpunk 2077, a similar open-world crime game, suffered a botched and glitchy launch following eight years of unimaginable hype, some GTA fans are wary of such a fate befalling the game they've been waiting so long for. Maybe those cautious fans can seek solace from their interminable wait by diving into Grand Theft Auto Online and living on island time with the new Cayo Perico Heist.
