Avengers: The 5 Tallest (& 5 Shortest) Actors In The MCU Cast
Though the Marvel Cinematic Universe contains some of the best superhero movies of the past 10 years, those superheroes might not look the part in real life. Some of the actors could be any height as their CGI outfits could have audiences believing anything, and considering there are even superheroes that now literally change size, anything is possible.
Though none of them have to stand on apple crates for posters like Tom Cruise famously does for many of his movies, some of their heights may come as a surprise. Similarly, those who audiences presumed to be pretty short are actually as tall as their much bigger on-screen partners in crime.
10 Tallest: Chris Evans (6’0’’)
The captain was one of the characters with the most screen time in the original movie and it’s partly because of his demanding physique. Though most of us will always look like Steve Rogers before he was transformed into the physical specimen that he is today, the reality is that Chris Evans is not only ripped, but he’s one of the tallest Avengers too.
There’s a reason why the Captain’s go-to move is the high kick, which is probably because his long legs can reach much further than his arms, as he is six feet tall.
9 Shortest: Tie: Mark Ruffalo And Tom Holland (5’8’’)
It may come as a surprise that the MCU’s shortest hero is the same size as the franchise’s biggest hero in real life. Mark Ruffalo’s take on the Hulk may be one of the things the first Avengers movie got right, but his real-life size is much shorter than his huge green counterpart.
Mark Ruffalo shares the same height as the teenager of the MCU, Spider-Man’s Tom Holland, as they are both 5’8’’.
8 Tallest: Tie: Chris Pratt And Tom Hiddleston (6’2’’)
When Chris Pratt was first cast as Peter Quill in Guardians of the Galaxy, it came as a surprise to many as he was mostly known for his role as the overweight slob Andy in Parks and Recreation.
But after slimming down and getting in shape through the ultra-secret Marvel workout regime that has turned many funny people into hunks, he turned into the carved mountain of a man he’s seen as today. Chris Pratt and Tom Hiddleston share the same height at 6’2’’, though if Loki was to be recast today, he’d be a lot shorter.
7 Shortest: Don Cheadle (5’7’’)
Though he’s mostly seen in his War Machine suit, it’s near impossible to estimate Don Cheadle’s height in the movies. But when he parks the suit, it turns out that he is one of the shortest members of the Avengers.
His height is just 5’7’’, which raises one of the most interesting questions about Iron Man 2 and Iron Man 3; why are the War Machine suits and the Iron Man suits the same height? Surely a billion-dollar piece of kit like that would have to be tailor-made.
6 Tallest: Samuel L. Jackson (6’2’’)
It comes as no surprise that Samuel L. Jackson is one of the tallest of the team. In most of his movies, Jackson has showcased how dominating and commanding he can be on screen.
As he was cast as Nick Fury, the founder of the Avengers Initiative and the overseer of S.H.I.E.L.D., it has to be assumed that part of the reason Jackson was cast was for his dominating stature. Jackson is six feet and 2.5 inches tall.
5 Shortest: Brie Larson (5’7’’)
It almost seems as if the shorter the actor is the more powerful the role is that they’ll be cast in, as Brie Larson is one of the shortest actors in the cast, but Captain Marvel is arguably the most powerful superhero in the entire series.
As the character’s hairstyle in Avengers: Endgame was the subject of many questions and memes, maybe it was to make her seem taller, as Larson comes in at just a bit shorter than 5’7’’.
4 Tallest: Tie: Chris Hemsworth and Paul Bettany (6’3’’)
Chris Hemsworth’s take on the god of thunder may not be entirely accurate, but he’s one of the fans’ most favorite characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and has become the subject of some hilarious memes.
As they are in constant competition with each other, Hemsworth edges out Tom Hiddleston, his on-screen brother, by just short of an inch, as the Thor actor is almost 6’3’’, and he looks a lot bigger when puts on weight in Endgame. Paul Bettany, who plays Vision in the series, shares the same height as Hemsworth.
3 Shortest: Tie: Evangeline Lilly And Elizabeth Olsen (5’6’’)
It’s pretty appropriate that Evangeline Lilly, who plays Hope in Ant-Man and the Wasp, is one of the shortest members of the MCU, as her superhero alter-ego can shrink down to the size of an ant.
Elizabeth Olsen, who plays Scarlett Witch in the franchise, share’s Lilly’s height of just 5 foot 6 inches, meaning that she’s much smaller than her on-screen love interest Paul Bettany, who plays Vision.
2 Tallest: Dave Bautista (6’6’’)
Dave Bautista, who plays Drax in Guardians of the Galaxy, is by far the tallest member of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, as he is a Goliath with a height of six feet and six inches.
He’s more than three inches taller than the runners up, Chris Hemsworth and Paul Bettany, and though Bautista may not look like the tallest on-screen, as he looks much smaller than Chris Pratt in the movies, he’s actually four inches taller than the Starlord.
1 Shortest: Scarlett Johansson (5’3’’)
Black Widow changed in a lot of ways since phase one, but one thing has remained constant, she is easily the shortest member of The Avengers.
With her height coming in at just shorter than five feet and three inches when compared to Dave Bautista, she is a whole one foot and three inches shorter than him. It’s a good job they never had any scenes together, as that would have caused some frustrating camera work.
