Dan Stevens Says “The Guest 2” Is Possible
While reviews for “Eurovision Song Contest: The Story Of Fire Saga” have varied considerably, actor Dan Stevens has scored universal rave reviews for his role as the well-coifed Russian contestant Alexander Lemtov in the film.
It marks the latest in a several year history of interesting roles the British actor has taken on since departing “Downton Abbey” where he broke through. His first role after the series was Adam Wingard’s “The Guest,” the old school psychological thriller that wasn’t a big box-office success but earned rave reviews and a cult audience.
Speaking with Forbes recently, Stevens says the potential for a sequel to that are still there as there has been talks about continuing the story:
“We’ve certainly talked about it. I’d love to work with both Adam Wingard, the director, and [screenwriter Simon Barrett] again. Adam’s pretty busy with giant apes and monsters at the moment with ‘Godzilla vs. Kong’. Simon and I have talked about many things. A sequel to ‘The Guest’ has come up.”
Stevens says he’s well aware of the lasting appeal of the film and is so glad it’s still finding an audience:
“Now that it [the first film] is back on Netflix again, it is having a huge revival. That, for me, is a kind of success in and of itself. For me, in the limited career, I’ve had so far, ‘The Guest’ has had the longest legs. People just this week, for whatever reason, are discovering it and messaging me and saying, ‘I can’t believe it took me this long to discover this film. It’s great.’ That’s really satisfying.”
Stevens can next be seen in Dave Franco’s R-rated horror thriller “The Rental” about two couples rent a vacation home for what should be a celebratory weekend get-away and turns into a nightmare. Alison Brie, Jeremy Allen White, Sheila Vand and Toby Huss co-star in the film which hits VOD and theatrical on July 24th.
