‘New Warriors’ Would Have Had ‘Spawn’ Actor Keith David Play MODOK
Kevin Biegel has revealed that Spawn actor Keith David would have played MODOK in the canceled Marvel New Warriors series.
Marvel’s various television shows have gone through a lot of shakeups over the past few years. Many series were canceled which included the infamous axing of the Marvel Netflix shows and many that began productions but were axed before they got off the ground. This sadly included the New Warriors series.
Marvel’s New Warriors series was underway before it was axed. A full pilot for the series was produced that Disney executives reportedly loved. The series was unfortunately canceled after multiple networks passed on the show. However, the people behind the series clearly had plans for it.
In a recent post, the New Warriors showrunner revealed that Spawn voice actor Kieth David would have eventually portrayed Marvel antagonist MODOK. Keith David was originally cast as a character known as Ernest Vigman who was described as a caustic municipal employee who butts up against the hopeful energy of the New Warriors. As it turned out, however, Kevin Biegel had a lot more in store for the Spawn actor:
I just got sad talking to a friend because I remembered we had a seasons-long plan on our New Warriors show to turn Keith David's character into M.O.D.O.K.

that would've been so good. Ah, another timeline.

Just shut your eyes and imagine Keith David saying, "MODOK." And then laughing. Oh my God it still gives me goosebumps.

The canceled Marvel series would have starred Milana Vayntrub, Derek Theler, Jeremy Tardy, Calum Worthy, Matthew Moy and Kate Comer. Here’s the official synopsis for the canceled series:
“Marvel’s New Warriors” is about six young people with powers living and working together. With powers and abilities on the opposite end of the spectrum of The Avengers, the New Warriors want to make a difference in the world… Even if the world isn’t ready. Not quite super, not yet heroes, “Marvel’s New Warriors” is about that time in your life when you first enter adulthood and feel like you can do everything and nothing at once — except in this world, bad guys can be as terrifying as bad dates.”
