Joe Russo To Pen Sequel For Chris Hemsworth’s ‘Extraction’
One of the biggest hits of the year was Extraction, an action film led by Chris Hemsworth and written by Joe Russo. The Netflix film – produced by Joe Russo and his brother Anthony – was one of the streaming service’s biggest hits in recent memory. Extraction received critical acclaim for its fantastic action sequences and diverse cast of characters, so it makes absolute sense that the streaming service wants to turn the Hemsworth film into a franchise.
As reported by Deadline, Joe Russo will be writing the sequel to Extraction, though he’s currently unsure the direction the film will be going in.
“The deal is closed for me to write Extraction 2, and we are in the formative stages of what the story can be. We’re not committing yet to whether that story goes forward, or backward in time. We left a big loose ending that leaves question marks for the audience.”
Extraction did end with a cryptic cliffhanger but we won’t spoil the Chris Hemsworth film here as it has only recently been released. It would be hard to imagine the franchise not focusing on Hemsworth’s character so a prequel seems to be the safest bet when moving forward. Joe Russo also revealed that he expects Extraction director Sam Hargrave to return to the director’s seat and it’s hard to imagine the stuntman turned director will pass on the opportunity.
