James Bond: Pierce Brosnan's 10 Best 007 One-Liners, Ranked

James Bond is no stranger to clever one-liners, but Pierce Brosnan got the best of them. His more adventurous, light-hearted take on the popular MI6 spy gave Brosnan the opportunity to pull off a few memorable quotes that are still a signature of his 4-film run.

Today, here are the best of Pierce Brosnan's 007 one-liners. Pour yourself a martini, and read along.

10 THE GOLDEN JOKE - THE WORLD IS NOT ENOUGH (1999)

"I see you put your money where your mouth is."

Breakbeat artist Goldie scored a cameo as one of Valentin Zukovsky's mafia enforcers, giving James Bond the chance to fire off a gag about his signature gold-grilled teeth. Not exactly subtle, but one of Bond's more straightforward quips.

9 V.R. TRAINING SEQUENCE - DIE ANOTHER DAY (2002)

"Check the replay. You'll find he's dead, and she's only got a flesh wound."

While undergoing a V.R. training sequence, Bond comes across a simulation of terrorists who have infiltrated MI6 and taken M hostage. After slaying the henchmen, Bond finds himself in a tricky situation with the final terrorist using M as a human shield. Rather than play it safe, Bond opens fire, mildly wounding M while killing the assailant. At first, Q believes Bond failed the mission, until he's told to check the replay for counter-evidence.

8  THE LIMP - GOLDENEYE (1995)

"I gave him the limp!"

In an attempt to get close to the mysterious villain known as Janus, Bond travels to St. Petersburg to meet up with CIA agent Jack Wade, a man with some knowledge of his whereabouts. He advises Bond to get in contact with a Russian Mafia boss named Zukovsky, a man with a limp in his leg. When Bond asks Wade if he's referring to Valentin Zukovsky, Wade confirms it before asking how he knew. Bond begrudgingly admits that he was the one responsible for the limp.

7  DANISH LESSONS - TOMORROW NEVER DIES (1997)

"I'm just up here at Oxford, brushing up on a little Danish."

In between saving the world, Bond is known for philandering with an assortment of women to blow off some steam. While enjoying a roll in the hay with a Danish professor at Oxford, Bond gets a call from Moneypenny advising him to return to MI6 to deal with a new threat. Rather than get into detail about his affairs, he spouts this clever one-liner, which Moneypenny is far too smart to fall for.

6 THE EXPLODING PEN - GOLDENEYE (2005)

"The writing's on the wall?"

Before heading out into the field, Bond gets a crash course on new MI6 spy gadgets and weapons technology, courtesy of Q. While showcasing a number of high tech items, Q demonstrates the exploding pen grenade, which operates on a 3-click timing mechanism. After successfully blowing a dummy to smithereens, Q halts Bond off at the pass with a quick "Don't say it!" Bond can't resist, however. He utters this quote, which is enough to make the normally short-tempered Q crack a rare laugh and reply, "Along with the rest of him!"

5  THE NEWSPAPER DEATH - TOMORROW NEVER DIES (1997)

"They'll print anything these days."

After Elliot Carver fails to take out Bond following their first encounter, Bond responds by infiltrating one of his newspaper factories to steal a high tech encoder which can manipulate GPS signals. The sudden appearance of Wei Lin gives his position away, leading to a shootout between Bond and Carver's henchmen, with a few fistfights thrown in for good measure. Bond beats one henchman in a brawl and sends him toppling over the railing, and into the newspaper printer. The results are anything but pretty, but Bond wastes no effort adding a little humor to the moment.

4 THE ICE PALACE - DIE ANOTHER DAY (2002)

"A palace of ice! You must feel right at home."

007 heads to the illustrious ice palace owned by the villain Gustav Graves, where he's greeted by fellow MI6 agent Miranda Frost. Not one to take a liking to Bond, Frost reluctantly tails him a partner to investigate Graves' ultimate plan. Bond doesn't waste the opportunity to take a jab at the irony of a cold-hearted agent named Frost hanging out in a building made of ice.

3 THE POST-BIKE SHOWER - TOMORROW NEVER DIES (1997)

"That comes from not growing up at all."

After narrowly escaping one of Elliot Carver's hit squads in a dramatic motorcycle chase sequence through the streets of Saigon, Bond and his reluctant Chinese spy partner Wai Lin enjoy a relaxing shower from a broken street pipe. After Bond compliments Lin on her weapons skills, she in turn compliments him on his motorcycle driving skill. Bond responds with a bit of self-deprecation and boyish charm, no doubt intended to woo his sensual partner.

2 THE CHRISTMAS CRACK - THE WORLD IS NOT ENOUGH (1999)

"I thought Christmas only comes once a year."

One of Bond's most infamous (and hammy) one=liners came at the end of this outing. After successfully thwarting a plan to cause a nuclear meltdown in Istanbul, Bond and his reluctant accomplice Dr. Christmas Jones enjoy a little R&R (of the carnal kind). The coupling gives Bond the opportunity to crack a Christmas joke wrapped up in an all-too-obvious double entendre.

1  THE VENGEANCE - GOLDENEYE (1995)

"No, for me."

Perhaps the most famous of Pierce Brosnan's 007 one-liners was this signature classic at the end of Goldeneye. After Bond and former 00-agent Alec Trevelyan come full circle from their first mission at the beginning of the film, they square off against one another on top of a large satellite before Bond gains the upper hand, holding him by the ankle and angling him over a huge drop. Trevelyan knows Bond's intentions, asking him if he's doing it for Queen and country. Bond responds coldly with this reply, before letting him go to plummet to this death.
