10 Most Awkward Kisses On Film | ScreenRant

Romance is an integral part of cinema. It captures the hearts of its characters and audience almost every time a pair of characters embrace and fall in love on screen. In every genre, there is some faction of love whether it be the volatile relationship in Fight Club between Tyler Durden and Marla Singer or the sappy love story between Beverly and Howard in Howard the Duck. There is always room for romance and kissing in film.

However, not every on-screen romance and kiss is the stuff dreams are made out of. In fact, there are quite a few smooches that are downright odd, bizarre, and painfully awkward, which is hilarious and squeamish at the same time. Too much tongue, slobber, weird position, or swapping spit with a family member - there are enough reasons these intimate entitlements can go wrong. Here are the 10 most awkward kisses on film.

10 Marty McFly And His Mom In Back To The Future

Time travel can be a blast as Michael J Fox showed the world in Back to the Future, but it can also have its large negative impacts, such as when Marty is transported back to the 1950s and collides with his teenage parents.

If that wasn't enough, Marty's mother Lorraine has the hots for her unborn son Marty and gets quite frisky with him, engaging in a very awkward and unpleasant kiss. Luckily, Lorraine has a bad gut reaction and stops before more hanky panky can ensue. The look on Marty's face is priceless though.

9 Lloyd Christmas And Mary Swanson In Dumb And Dumber

Jim Carrey went all out in Dumb and Dumber when his character Lloyd immediately fell in love with his limo passenger Mary Swanson. Lloyd had multiple dreams about her, some of them being absurdly passionate.

One such sequence is when the two are about to have a lovely makeout session in front of a burning fireplace where Jim Carrey fully engulfs Lauren Holly's face in the biggest open mouth kiss ever caught on screen. Holly doesn't know what to do, but try and breathe and escape. Samsonite...Lloyd was way off.

8 Luke And Leia In Empire Strikes Back

Han Solo, Luke Skywalker, and Princess Leia are the three best friends that anyone can have in Star Wars, but their relationship wasn't always the happiest of times. Leia's beauty knew no bounds, which is why both Han and Luke both loved her.

In The Empire Strikes Back, the nasty Imperial Forces are hammering down the Rebellion where Han and Leia are having a spat in front of Chewbacca and Luke. In a moment of rage, Leia has an intense spite kiss with Luke to make Han mad. What's awkward about this is that in the next film, it's revealed that Luke and Leia are siblings. Does it count if they didn't know? The force was not strong in this sequence.

7 Andy And Lindsay In Wet Hot American Summer

Wet Hot American Summer is one of the best spoof comedies ever to be released that had an all-star comedy cast. There was a ton of laughs, physical humor, and sloppy make-out sessions in this movie that conjured up gut-busting laughs.

One of the most awkward moments was when Andy (Paul Rudd) and Lindsay (Elizabeth Banks) have a big smooch, where their tongues are licking each other's faces and slobber is everywhere. This is when Andy abruptly stops kissing and tells Lindsay, "You taste like a burger. I don't like you anymore." Cut to the next scene. It's that simple. If only everyone were that honest.

6 Kip And Lawfunnduh In Napoleon Dynamite

Napoleon is gonna do whatever he feels like, gosh. In Napoleon Dynamite, the titular character is as awkward as can be in high school but is also one of the best coming of age comedies ever. Napoleon himself doesn't share a kiss, but rather his older brother Kip, who has been in a long term online relationship with a woman named Lawfunduh.

The two eventually meet in person and they are the complete opposite physically, but they end up getting married, and after a funny and painfully awkward song about technology and love, the two kiss in front of the alter which seems all kinds of wrong, but at the same time, oh so right.

5 Molly, Sam, And Oda In Ghost

The Oscar-winning film of 1990 Ghost was a romance that ended short when Sam (Patrick Swayze) was murdered and his wife Molly (Demi Moore) was left behind to pick up the pieces. It wasn't over for Sam though as his spirit lived on to haunt and warn his widowed wife that someone close to her might kill again. From the director of Airplane and Kentucky Fried Movie,

Jerry Zucker made this film with the most honest intentions, but there were some silly moments, including a lovemaking session around clay and a possessed Whoopi Goldberg who turns into Patrick Swayze for one last kiss with his wife. With 1990 visual effects, the whole angelic like ghost vision smooching with a living being is completely awkward - then BAM, Whoopi Goldberg appears.

4 Freddy Krueger And Lisa In Nightmare On Elm St. 2

One...Two...Freddy's gonna kiss you. A thesis could be written on the many layers of sexuality and teen exploration in Freddy's Revenge, but there is also a super awkward kiss between the two leads, which is gross and hilarious all at the same time. Freddy is trying to get back in the physical world and does so by possessing the body of a teenage boy named Jesse. His girlfriend Lisa is desperate to save him as she thinks their love will conquer all.

They share a passionate kiss towards the end, which backfires as Jesse is ripped apart by Freddy inside his body. The burned, slimy face and tongue drips all over Lisa for some good measure.

3 Jason Vorhees In Jason Goes To Hell

Nine films in and Jason Vorhees is still adding to his death tally in Jason Goes to Hell. This installment is the silliest and most asinine movie of the franchise with Jason getting killed within the first few minutes. His body might be gone, but his soul has taken over a few innocent civilians before he's eventually launched into outer space setting up the sequel.

While this is not the standard kissing affair, the way Jason transfers his soul into others is by tongue kissing unsuspecting people, turning them into a vicious silent killer. It's painstakingly bizarre.

2 Micahel Fassbender And Michael Fassbender In Alien Covenant

To say the sixth film of the Alien franchise was awkward would be an understatement. Alien: Covenant took place some years after the events of Prometheus where a team of humans traveled to a new planet where they cross paths with some interesting aliens and characters.

The android from Prometheus David (Michael Fassbender) is doing its job keeping everyone safe until another look-alike Android named Walter (Michael Fassbender) lures him into his haunting lair with alien research. Walter plays the flute and the two share a passionate kiss. The next second, murder is on the android's mind, because why not. None of it makes sense other than to have Fassbender kiss himself.

1 Pee-wee Herman And Gina In Big Top Pee-wee

Pee-wee Herman and sexual situations don't go together at all, but that all changed in Big Top Pee-wee where a storm blew through Pee-wee's house and a circus ended up setting their tents in the ground. It became an adventure for Pee-wee, especially when the man-child met the beautiful Gina (Valeria Golino from Hot Shots).

The two become romantic and engage in an unusual kiss that lasted two minutes. That's right, there is a big blockbuster film out there with Pee-wee Herman kissing someone for two minutes straight out there and it's as uncomfortable and awkward as you can imagine.
